Rare Vintage University Of Florida Rat Cap 1956 1960 Beanie Wool Hat Freshmen

University of Florida wool cap from 1956. Known as a “rat cap” or “beanie” and required to be worn by all UF freshmen with their anticipated graduation year. Freshman had to wear these every day except Sunday and when they saw an upperclassman, touch the brim of their cap and say hello. The tradition ended in the late 1960’s. A true piece of UF history. While there are still some around, not many are available to own. A few can be found in the UF Archives in the campus library. For age, still in pretty great condition. Inner rim has some wear and back has wear and a few tiny holes as seen in photos. Size 7, although it would be better suited for decor or to add to a collection, or even the perfect gift for someone who went to UF during this time.
